Texas does not issue a painting contractor license, so a painter in Houston advertising one is describing a credential the state doesn't offer. Three things tell you far more, and anyone quoting your house should be able to show you all three.

What happens on a repaint, start to finish?
Ray measures it himself.
He comes out, measures, and looks at the parts that decide the price: wall condition, the north-facing wood, whether the last coat is failing or just tired.
The price is written down on the spot.
On most residential projects the detailed estimate is written during the walkthrough, and that price is fixed for the scope you agree on. A real number instead of an allowance or a "we'll see when we open it up."
Prep comes before any color.
Covering, masking, sanding, patching and priming decide whether your paint job still looks right three years from now.
A crew built for your job.
Typically two to four painters, scaled to the scope, all working Ray's system: contain, protect, prep, then paint.

Do house painters in Houston need a state license?
Texas does not issue a painting contractor license, so no Houston painting company holds one. What protects you here is insurance, EPA Lead-Safe certification and a written warranty, and we have all three.
My house was built before 1978. Does that change anything?
Homes built before 1978 can contain lead paint, and disturbing it is federally regulated under the EPA RRP rule. We are an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm, which is the certification that rule requires. Ask every painter you are quoting for their firm certification number: it either exists or it does not.
How much does it cost to paint a 2,000 square foot house?
The estimator on this page will give you a range for it, and a range is the honest shape of that answer. Two 2,000 square foot houses can be thousands of dollars apart depending on ceiling height, how many colors you want, whether the trim is being sprayed, and how much patching the walls need first. So the calculator gives you a ballpark and Ray gives you the price, after he has measured yours and written it down.
What paint do you use?
Sherwin-Williams, matched to the surface it is going on. Emerald, Duration, SuperPaint, WoodScapes and Loxon each exist for a reason, and which one your house needs is part of what the walkthrough decides. The product name goes on your quote before you sign it.
How long does the warranty last?
The 3-Year Workmanship Warranty runs for three years from the day the project is completed, and it comes in writing. It applies on qualifying painting projects and covers failures caused by our workmanship on surfaces we prepared and painted, such as premature peeling, blistering or flaking from improper application. It does not cover water intrusion, substrate failure, existing coatings failing underneath, wear and tear or impact. Stain and floor coatings are different systems, so Ray confirms their terms separately.
Is there a minimum project size?
Most professional interior painting projects begin around $1,000. That is Ray’s own framing, and $1,000 is the residential project minimum for interior and exterior work alike.
Is the price fixed once you write it?
Yes, the price is fixed for the agreed scope of work once the proposal is written. Work that falls outside that scope is handled as a change order or an add-on, so it arrives as a decision you make rather than a number that quietly grows. On most residential projects the written estimate is done on the spot during the walkthrough, and on larger or more complex jobs the proposal is sent afterwards.
When do I pay?
Payment runs in parts. A deposit is required to schedule the work, larger projects may carry progress payments as the job moves, and the final balance is due after the project is completed and we have walked it with you. The estimate itself is free.
Do you walk the job with me at the end?
Yes, there is a final walkthrough with you before the project closes out. It exists so punch-list items get addressed while we are still there and you are 100% satisfied with the work, instead of noticing something a week after everyone has gone.
Who shows up? Does the owner come out?
